Miniature Bunny

The meat of instant spaghettis looks like dry fodder for miniature bunnies.

Word Of The Day V

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 in Word of the day

Because it’s sounding so wonderfully like Ruhrpott, mining and welding your Opel, today’s Word Of The Day is:

wulachen: (German) to work hard (physically)

“Adrian really had to wulach, to pound the plaster off the undercut’s walls.”

I Love(d) College

Monday, April 20th, 2009 in Music

Today I’d like to recommend the song Asher Roth – I Love College to all the party animals of you out there. I’m coming across that song about once a day at the already mentioned Channel X. But after discovering the video on tape.tv (a quite sleek YouTube derivative for music videos), I thought, I’d start spreading it around a bit.

Have fun. I’m off to find out when the first college parties of this summer term are taking off.

OpenThesaurus

Sunday, April 5th, 2009 in Online

Okay, okay. I can hear you shouting “odl&stale” already, but I did’nt know it until now and can hardly manage to hide my ardor after discovering OpenThesaurus lately. It’s doing, what a thesaurus is doing and that pretty well. An OpenSearch plugin for the browser search bar is available as well, of course.

If I only had known it before writing my diploma thesis…

Long Channels Of Supply

Friday, April 3rd, 2009 in AMC Pacer

After about four weeks the repair manual for my Pacer arrived from the USA yesterday. Now I only have to pick it up in Bellenberg to finally immerse myself into the subject. In particular the somewhat opinionated braking characteristics are preventing a registration of the car currently. Already low brake pressure is enough to block the front left wheel. I discovered this when I was about 500 meters away from the seller’s house while approaching the first red light. That raised my stress level for the rest of the transfer fairly which is why I’d like to tackle this problem as fast as possible.

Just in time for the literature supply a package of spare parts from Austria is on its way to me. It took a bit longer than I expected at first, but the important thing is I can start soon. All this great weather lately got me more and more nervous and I can hardly wait anymore to go for a cruise in the evening.

.htaccess Passwords

in Online

For month I’ve been using the wrong password to access my email administration. Strange thing is, I have not discovered this until just now because the web server granted me access all the time. A quick Google search confirmed my suspicion when I found Franz Seidl describing the same behaviour: By default an access control using .htpasswd files is taking only the first eight characters into consideration when checking passwords! So keep this in mind if you are protecting folders of your web server by setting up .htaccess files.

Addendum: adminblogger just pointed out to me, that you can tell htpasswd which algorithm to use when creating a password hash. See a short example by him at pastebin.
